1. This website

The hokd.app website serves only as information about the Hokd app. There are no accounts, no logins, no payments through the website. Purchases of the Pro feature go exclusively through App Store or Play Store.

Tracking

We use Umami Analytics (self-hosted on Railway, anonymous): no cookies, no personal data, no IP storage, and no storing or reading of information on your device. Only aggregate page views, referrer, and approximate geo-region are captured. No cross-site tracking, no profiling. Because no information is stored on or read from your device, no consent is required (§ 25 (2) TDDDG); the legal basis for anonymous reach measurement is Art. 6 (1) f GDPR.

No Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or advertising trackers run on this site.

Server logs

Our hosting provider (Vercel) stores technically necessary server logs (IP, request, user-agent) for a maximum of 14 days to prevent abuse. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) f GDPR (legitimate interest in operational security).

2. The Hokd app (iOS / macOS)

The iOS and Mac app is local-first: all stages, reflections, playbooks, challenges are stored exclusively on your device (SwiftData).

iCloud sync

Optional. Data is synced via CloudKit between your own Apple devices and lives exclusively in your private iCloud — Hokd has no access to it.

AI features (Pro)

On iOS 26+ and macOS 26+, all AI analyses run entirely on-device through Apple Intelligence. Your text never leaves the device, no server roundtrip. On older devices without Apple Intelligence, AI features are not available (no server fallback on iOS/Mac).

3. The Hokd app (Android)

The Android app is also local-first, with two differences:

  • Backups via the system Storage Access Framework. You pick a folder (Google Drive, Dropbox, local, anything) — Hokd only gets read/write access to that one folder. No direct cloud-provider access.
  • AI features (Pro) run through the Hokd backend (Vercel, Frankfurt region) to Anthropic Claude and OpenAI. Your input text is sent to the respective provider for response generation and is not persisted there (Anthropic and OpenAI API default: no model training on API inputs). The backend stores only an anonymous quota counter, no content.

4. Purchases (Pro subscription)

Pro is billed through App Store or Google Play Billing. Hokd only receives the information whether a valid subscription is active. Payment and account data is processed exclusively by Apple/Google.

5. Contact

If you contact us by email (support@balane.tech), we store the email including content and reply thread to handle your request. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) f GDPR (legitimate interest in handling support requests).

The mailbox is hosted by IONOS SE (Elgendorfer Straße 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany). Incoming requests are then processed in our self-hosted Zammad helpdesk, running on a server operated by Hetzner Online GmbH (Nuremberg, Germany). Both providers process exclusively in Germany and are contractually bound as processors.

Retention until the matter is closed, then in accordance with statutory commercial retention obligations.

6. Your rights (GDPR)

Access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), objection (Art. 21). Right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority (Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision).
